I’m not ashamed to admit that my Apple Watch pretty much ruled my life for a time. Looking back, I did ridiculous things to close my rings (sorry, downstairs neighbors), hit my monthly accomplishments, and overall get a deeper grasp of how my body functions and my big-picture health. My only gripe with the watch was that I often found myself wanting more—more data and more insight. I was close to making the leap to an Oura Ring when I heard about the Evie Ring, developed by Movano Health. It’s a sleek and surprisingly effective fitness tracker specifically engineered for women.

At first glance, the Evie—much like its competitors—could easily be mistaken for a minimalist piece of jewelry. Aesthetics aside, the device is hyper in tune with your health, helping you connect the dots of what might be going on in your body. For example, it told me that I was exhibiting signs of stress (to which I said, “Yeah, look at my inbox”). Low and behold, a few days later, I was down for the count. Going off my fluctuating skin temperature and heart rate variations, the Evie was able to detect signs of inflammation, which told me I was fighting off a cold long before I made a groggy schlep to the store for Dayquil.

Evie’s competitive edge is that it is more keenly attuned to the nuances of female bodies. Of course, it tracks the usual metrics, including heart rate, temperature, and Sp02 (pulse ox). But then it levels up. For women focused on fertility, the Evie does an excellent job of monitoring menstrual cycles and providing insights on reproductive health. A free-to-use app—no cost, no subscription—stores all your data so you can review whenever you choose. Another significant advantage is extended battery life—four days on a full charge, versus one (if you’re lucky) for the Apple Watch or two for the Oura.

Overall, for me the Evie is a win because of the way Movano Health built the technology. It feels empowering to use something specifically calibrated for my body. And if you’re wondering, yes, the Evie now rules my life.
