Doing the same thing well for forty years hasn’t been easy, but Thalle Industries—supplier of rock and asphalt to some of the biggest, busiest construction companies across Westchester and the Hudson Valley—has nailed it. The Briarcliff-based company celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and CEO and President Glenn Pacchiana is laser focused on continuing the company’s local legacy for generations to come.
Pacchiana’s father founded the company back in 1985, and his playbook is still in use when it comes to thoughtful innovation. Pacchiana constantly searches for new ways to innovate within the asphalt business, especially when it comes to making more sustainable materials. A key example of this: Thalle’s Virtual Quarry, which has been active since 1997 and has locations in Elmsford, Fishkill, and Montrose. The Quarry is essentially a recycling facility that takes in raw materials from contractors and municipalities, some of which would normally end up going to waste, and transforms them into completely new, virgin aggregate—saving contractors money and a trip to the dump.

“They don’t have to throw away stuff that would normally go to a landfill,” Pacchiana said. “Instead, they bring it to us, and we get to put it back into the economy and the community.” Their unwavering dedication to sustainability has earned Thalle several environmental accolades, including Westchester Parks Foundation’s’ “Best Green Friend” award and a “Commitment to Green Business Leadership in Westchester County” certificate from the Westchester Green Business Challenge.
On top of all Thalle’s business-related accomplishments, Pacchiana attributes the company’s four decades of success to a longstanding emphasis on employee well-being. If someone has nowhere else to turn to for help, he’s willing to lend a hand with a loan payment or medical expenses. Thalle even partners with the Arbinger Institute, a global organization that works with employees to brainstorm, problem solve and develop leadership and life skills. These sessions, along with seasonal retreats and annual field trips to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx for authentic cannolis, contributed to Thalle earning a spot on 914INC’s Best Places to Work list.
“I think the way we support our customers, and our employees, is what sets us apart,” says Pacchiana. “We may not be as big as our competitors, but we take great care of our customers and ourselves. That’s all that matters to me.”
There’s a chance you’ve set foot on a Thalle Industries product without even knowing it—for instance, on the concrete in the Beacon Metro-North Station. Also, their stones were used to build the Broadview Senior Housing units in Purchase.
