For the past six years, Tracey Guerin has created a path for herself at Kings Capital Construction. The construction management and site development firm’s tagline reads “built by kings.” But, what if one of those kings is actually a queen? Guerin has navigated what it’s like to be part of the 11% of women in the construction industry, and she’s soaring.
Guerin was recently named to the 2026 Ones to Watch by New York Real Estate Journal, and for good reason. She is currently the assistant project manager at the company, rising the ranks from just an entry role when she joined in 2020 after leaving the hospitality workforce during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

She first started out in the finance department as the assistant to the comptroller and was quickly promoted to project manager when they realized she was overqualified for the original role. Just a little bit later, she moved out of finance and into operations. Today, she is the key support person to the chief operating officer and was recently promoted from project coordinator to assistant project manager.
“I learned all of the ins and outs of project admin from back-end support for subcontracts, purchase orders, and other job-specific tasks to assist with,” she says. “I not only deal with admin and paperwork, but I deal with finance, making sure people are paid properly and on time.”
She plays a key part in helping the people in the field see the start of the project to completion, including assisting in close-out manuals and other heavy administrative items for seven- and eight-figure contracts. Although her role has always been considered a desk job, she’s not shy to head to the construction site, especially before a new big job. “It gives me a better understanding of what the job looks like and what the needs will be,” she says. “That way, it’s not just something that’s nuanced from inside the office. I have the chance to look at what the scope of work might look like and how things will sequence.”
Being in the industry makes sense for her, especially coming from a family that has worked in construction for most of her life. “It was organic,” she says. “It was a good opportunity for me to help support my family.”
At the same time, it hasn’t been without its own challenges to navigate. For those interested in the industry, she says that, in a nutshell, it’s a job where you will spend a little time on many things. That requires the need for organization, being clear on expectations, meeting deadlines, asking for support from others, and having a collaborative mindset.
Other challenges come from being a woman in a male-dominated field.
“Being a woman in a male-dominated space is not for the faint of heart,” says Guerin. “Advancing in the way I have is not just because of my technical expertise. It has to do with my skills, resilience, and remaining proactive.”
For her, remaining committed to her own development has been her guiding mission.
“It’s not always easy, but if you stick with it and persist, you will have a great sense of purpose, which will lead to your success,” she says.
She’s been grateful for her time with Kings Capital, which has more recently been focused on civil construction work in the area.
“I work with a lot of great and smart people,” says Guerin. “When you’re working together with like-minded people that aren’t looking to pass off responsibilities but share them, it’s a pleasure. Even when it’s a hard day, I’m doing it with people I enjoy being around.”
